ABOUT NICK'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Upon the fund’s inception, donations from private individuals came pouring
in. However, in June of 2002, a letter arrived from the New York Stock Exchange’s
Fallen Hero Fund. In the letter they mentioned that they recognized that
some of the families of rescue personnel had created scholarships or other
special funds in honor of police officers, firefighters and Port Authority
police who died on September 11th. They also wrote if a charitable organization
had been established honoring Nick, the NYSE Fallen Heroes Fund would consider
making an additional contribution of up to $20,000.00 in his honor, they
had already donated $20,000.00 in Nick’s name to the Twin Towers Fund. This
applied to our family, we contacted them with the appropriate information
they requested and they made a very generous donation to the fund in the
amount of $20,000.00. This along with all the other contributions was a
wonderful kick start for Nick’s fund. To all of you we are grateful.

2007 Pre-Marathon Dinner and Race Day, November 4, 2007
Our Pre-Marathon Dinner was held on Friday, November 2, two days
before the race. Fourteen of our twenty runners attended the dinner,
along with members of Nick’s family. Tony’s DiNapoli was our
restaurant of choice, and once again the food was scrumptious and
there was plenty of it. We organized this dinner so we can thank and
honor the members of Nick’s team for their efforts in raising money
for his Fund, and it also serves to acquaint me with the people who
I have communicated with for so many months. Everyone seemed to
enjoy the evening and each other, mostly swapping training and
strategy stories, as well as getting to know each other a bit. Below
is a picture of myself with the 14 team members who attended the
dinner. They were: (top from left to right) Alicia Mehlberg, Todd
DeCook, Dan Pickens, Andy Sansone, Tom Torter, Don Corsale, Megan
Skrabut. (Bottom left to right) Evelyn Gonzalez, me, Dante McGill,
Jackie Clinton, Julie Murphy, Rochelle McNally, Bridie O’Niell, and
Pam Winikoff.

I’ve gotten a few of our runners
to share some photos of themselves on Marathon Day. Pictures do say
a thousand words; at least I think that these do. They have all
commented that although their energy was spent coming to the finish
line, they still felt it was worth all of the hard work and it was
nothing less than an awesome experience, one to remember for many
years to come.

Our projected fundraising was far exceeded
this year. Having twenty runners instead of the ten we had last year
had a lot to do with it, however, Andy Sansone, alone raised
approximately $13,000.00 and a few of the other runners also raised
more than the required $2,500.00. This years Marathon/Fundraiser was
definitely a success ands the good news is, it enables us to award
larger scholarships third coming June.
At this point, we have not been asked to return and be part of the
2008 ING NYC Marathon. If we aren’t invited back, we remain totally
grateful to the NYRR for the opportunity we have been given for the
past two years. We will also remember the runners who were part of
our 2006 and 2007 teams. They gave their all for Nick. Thank you!
We also have beautiful tee shirts available. If anyone is interested in
purchasing one, you can do so now by our donation link on the bottom of
this page. We have them
at this time available in light gray. They come in Children’s size Medium
and Large and in Adult size Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, and XX-Large.
Each Tee Shirt costs $10.00 plus $2.25 for S&H. All money from the
sales of the tee shirts will benefit Nick’s fund.

At the present time we are still accepting donations for Nick’s fund. If
you have given in the past, and would like to donate again, it would be
very much appreciated. A donation of $100.00 or more will earn you a free
tee shirt, so please include your tee shirt size. Just make your checks
payable to the Nicholas Rossomando Memorial Scholarship Fund, and mail to
the same, c/o Barbara Scaramuzzino, 100 Anthony Street, Staten Island, NY
10309. All donations are tax deductable.
Thanks to all of you for being so patient, I know some of you have
asked, “What has been going on with the fund?” Well, here is the
scoop and we hope that what all of you have seen and read on this
website has been informative for you.
